Snowmobile safari "From Barents Sea to the White Sea" (6 days / 5 nights)

This snowmobile safari is created for the brave and strong snowmobilers as a result of several trial routes to the most remote and beautiful places on the Kola Peninsula. You will meet the most northern Barents Sea, the Arctic Tundra, Saami village Krasnoshelye, Pomor village Varzuga, known from the wooden church complex, including the Church of the Assumption, built in 1674 without a single nail and the southern ice covered White Sea. On route you will be able to see the harsh desolate tundra of the Arctic coast, get acquainted with the living conditions and life of the Kola reindeer and Saami people living in the heart of the peninsula. The total route is more than 600 km.

Program snowmobile tour:
Day 1. Meeting at the Murmansk airport or at a hotel. Transfer to the start point of the tour close to the Barents Sea shore (100 km). Changing clothes and start to drive to the Barents Sea shore (60 km). Check in at a guest house. Dinner. Overnight. Daily distance: 60 km

Day 2. Breakfast. Trip to the sea shore to watch the rests of an old village of Sea dwellers. Then we drive to the South direction of Kola Peninsula over rock valleys, frozen lakes and tundra. Wilderness lunch at a campfire at the shore of Korozero Lake. Visit a reindeer pasture on the way. Overnight in a guest house of reindeer-breeders. After lunch we have a speed snowmobiling on the lake ice and via lake system and frozen swamps, and via forest Daily distance: 110 km

Day 3. Breakfast. Start to drive to the South-West direction via virgin landscape of Kola Peninsula. Wilderness lunch at a campfire. After lunch we continue driving to a Lappish village Krasnoschelye. Overnight in a guest house. Sauna. Diner.

Day 4. Breakfast. Excursion in the village, visit to a local museum, snowmobiling in the neighbourhood, ice fishing, watching reindeers. Lunch during the day. Evening performance of a local folk group. Dinner and sauna in the evening.

Day 5. Breakfast. Start to drive by a snowmobile to an ancient village of Sea dwellers Varzuga. Wilderness lunch at a campfire. Overnight in a guest house. Sauna. Diner. Daily distance: 180 km

Day 6. Breakfast. Excursion in the village, visit a famous church complex of 17th century, snowmobiling to the mouth of Varzuga river and to an ancient village Kuzomen. Coming back to the guest house. Lunch. After lunch, transfer by bus to Kandalaksha city (250 km) or to Murmansk airport (480 km). Daily distance: 45 km

All tours include: rent of snowmobile, petrol, full equipment (overalls, helmet, balaclava, boots, gloves) and snowmobile guide/instructor.
 
Remark: The tour program can be changed depend on the weather condition.
 
Training:
Before driving, the participants select the necessary equipment - overalls, helmets, shoes etc. After that participants are instructed for avalanche safety and a short course of driving a snowmobile. During the training sessions the instructor sits behind the pupil, controlling the movement in the test drive.

After dressing and instructions, which can take about 30-50 minutes (depending of group size), the tour starts. The participants drive in colonna behind the snowmobile instructor and keep a distance between the snowmobile in front of , the distance between any snowmobiles from 25 to 100m. While driving participants can make stops to explore the surroundings or for photography.

Basic rules of snowmobiling:
  • Driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol is prohibited.
  • Overtaking other snowmobiles, driving off-track and not keeping distance between snowmobiles is not allowed.
  • Ruling a snowmobile under 16 years old is not permitted
  • Driving a snowmobile without a helmet is prohibited.
  • Chasing wildlife by snowmobile is expressly prohibited.
